Curated by Fragile Institute, this exhibition explores reassemblage and material transformation, on view at RISD from September 17 through November 12, 2024.
Professor Cash (Melissa) Ragona, in collaboration with artists Angela Dufresne and Andrew Woolbright as part of their curatorial collective Fragile Institute, presents “Back Again,” an exhibition focused on processes of reassemblage. Opening September 17 at Rhode Island School of Design’s Memorial Hall Gallery, the show features RISD faculty who explore the intersection of found and fabricated materials, deconstructing objects to create a more transparent view of their contexts and positions. The exhibition will be on view until November 12, 2024, with a special talk by Ragona and Fragile Institute scheduled for October 17 in RISD’s Department of Painting.
“Back Again” assembles works from sixteen artists, including Jim Drain, Molly Zuckerman-Hartung, and Africanus Okokon, each reimagining the overlooked potential of everyday objects. Through their reconfigurations, the artists challenge conventional narratives, pushing viewers to reconsider how they interact with materiality and context. The exhibition is an invitation to examine broken, reassembled pieces in ways that disrupt traditional ideas of form and function.
